Kirsten Macdonald

Kirsten HendersonKirsten trained in Auckland, where she learnt all aspects of piano tuning and repair. Additionally, she completed the Acoustics for Musicians paper at Auckland University. Kirsten is an active member of the NZ Piano Tuners and Technicians Guild (PTTG NZ) and is an Australasian Registered Piano Technician (ARPT).

Kirsten is a competent violin player and also enjoys many outdoor activities such as tramping, waterskiing, sailing, playing football and cultivating her vegetable garden.

Currently Kirsten divides her time between keeping the business and Andrew organised and looking after three small children.

Andrew Macdonald

Andrew MacdonaldAndrew began his experience as a piano tuner/technician with Michael Ashby in Wellington where he gained considerable knowledge of piano rebuilding. This led him to undertake a formal apprenticeship in Auckland, where he gained comprehensive training in all aspects of piano work. During his training he also completed the Acoustics for Musicians paper at Auckland University. Andrew is also an active member of the NZ Piano Tuners and Technicians Guild (PTTG NZ) and is an Australasian Registered Piano Technician (ARPT). He returned to Wellington to join Wellington Piano Service at the end of 2009.

Andrew has completed two degrees at Victoria University majoring in maths, German, English and history. He enjoys the outdoors, especially playing football and reads widely. Andrew has spent time learning clarinet and guitar and as well as being a fluent German speaker he is currently continuing his study of Italian.

 

Workshop

WorkshopOur comprehensive workshop has been purpose built for piano repairs. It is fully insulated and has a heat pump to maintain a comfortable climate for pianos. It is equipped with a heavy-duty chain hoist, for heavy lifting jobs such as piano frame removals, and all of the necessary machinery and tools to undertake any type of piano repair. A bass string winding machine enables us to custom manufacture bass strings. We are more than happy for you to visit the workshop and view jobs in progress.
